Chester Kroeger provides, amongst other things, the majority of the financial support behind Mosaic Oaks. A prominent figure in the Destin/South Walton community who founded Fudpucker’s Beachside Bar & Grill in 1982 (a highly successful local restaurant and entertainment operation), Chester has also been involved in real estate development for the past thirty years. Like Tim, Chester is an unrepentant “tree hugger” who helped formulate the vision of building green at Mosaic Oaks. In addition to his local interests, Chester is currently spending much of his time in the Central American country of Panama where he is developing several projects featuring various levels of “green” building concepts.
What do you like best about Mosaic Oaks?
“That’s easy. I like the landscaping. I like the ponds, which are just teeming with fish, frogs, turtles and other wildlife. I love the herb garden – that was my idea – because I love to cook with the freshest ingredients. What’s fresher than going out to the garden and pinching a few herbs? I love the choice of indigenous plants. I like the emphasis on trees and shrubs rather than grass, which is in keeping with the native landscape. I like the use of gravel sidewalks which are more permeable and have a more natural look than concrete. Finally, I think the irrigation is the most innovative of its kind. We’re using a single well head to irrigate EVERY lot in the subdivision. And, to conserve water and eliminate those awful stains on the sides of homes we’ve used soaker hoses to water from below. It’s just a fantastic landscape design, to me!” |
